Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 21, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how ExamClutch ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information about you when you use the ExamClutch Chrome extension (the "Extension") and the website located at examclutch.com (the "Website", together the "Services").
By installing the Extension or using the Website, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use our Services.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only the minimum information necessary to operate and improve the Services. The specific categories of information we collect are listed below.
2.1 Account & Authentication Information
- Email address (required for account creation and login)
- Full name and profile picture (only if you sign in with Google OAuth)
- A unique extension pairing code that links the Extension to your account
2.2 Payment Information
- Billing email and subscription status
- Payment card details are never handled or stored on our servers. All payments are processed directly by our PCI-compliant payment provider, Dodo Payments.
2.3 Extension Usage & Website Content
When you activate the Extension on a supported Learning Management System (LMS) page (such as Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, etc.), the Extension reads the question and answer-option text visible on the current page and sends it to our backend in order to generate an answer. We specifically collect:
- The text of questions and answer options you choose to submit
- The platform/LMS hostname (for example, "canvas.instructure.com")
- The number of questions processed per session
The Extension does not read, collect, or transmit any other content from web pages. It only activates when you explicitly trigger it (via keyboard shortcut, popup button, or the on-page floating button) and only reads the content of the active quiz/assignment page.
2.4 Onboarding Information
After subscribing, we ask a short onboarding questionnaire collecting your primary LMS, school year, and general subject areas. This is used solely to improve the Services.
2.5 Technical & Usage Data
- Aggregate usage statistics (total questions processed, total sessions)
- Rate-limit counters to prevent abuse
- Error and diagnostic logs for debugging
2.6 Information We Do NOT Collect
ExamClutch does not collect: your browsing history outside of active Extension sessions, personal communications (emails, chats), financial account credentials, health information, precise geolocation, keystrokes, form inputs on non-LMS pages, or any content from pages where the Extension has not been explicitly activated.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect exclusively for the following purposes:
- To provide the core answer-generation feature of the Extension
- To authenticate you and pair the Extension with your account
- To process subscriptions, renewals, and cancellations
- To enforce usage limits and prevent abuse of the Services
- To improve answer quality through an anonymized answer cache
- To respond to customer-support requests you submit
- To send transactional emails (receipts, password resets, service notices)
- To comply with legal obligations
4. Our Commitment (Chrome Web Store Disclosures)
In accordance with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies, we certify that:
- We do not sell your personal or sensitive user data to third parties.
- We do not use or transfer your data for purposes unrelated to the Extension's single purpose of assisting with LMS quizzes and assignments.
- We do not use or transfer your data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
- All data transmitted between the Extension and our servers is sent over HTTPS.
5. Third-Party Service Providers
We rely on a limited set of vetted third-party services to operate ExamClutch. These providers process data only on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy policies:
- Supabase — Account authentication and database hosting
- Google OAuth — Optional sign-in provider
- Dodo Payments — Subscription payment processing
- Google Gemini API — AI model used to generate answers from question text (question text only; no account identifiers are sent)
We do not share your information with any other third parties except as required by law or with your explicit consent.
6. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including HTTPS-only transport, encrypted database storage, row-level security on our database, and restricted access controls. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Anonymized, aggregated usage statistics may be retained indefinitely.
8. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction (including under the GDPR and CCPA), you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- The right to access the personal information we hold about you
- The right to correct inaccurate information
- The right to request deletion of your information
- The right to object to or restrict certain processing
- The right to data portability
- The right to withdraw consent at any time
To exercise any of these rights, please email us at support@examclutch.com. You may also uninstall the Extension at any time to stop all data collection by the Extension.
9. Children's Privacy
ExamClutch is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us so we can delete it.
10. International Data Transfers
Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than your country of residence. By using the Services, you consent to any such transfers, provided that appropriate safeguards are in place.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced by posting the revised policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
